TINTED MOISTURISER, BB AND CC CREAMS - THE LOW DOWN

Beauty today is all about beautiful skin. Therefore it is no surprise that products that are touted to improve the appearance of our skin are extremely popular. There is a lot of hype around tinted moisturisers,  BB and CC creams but many of us are confused on what they are and what they do, so let me break it down for you!

TINTED MOISTURISER

A tinted moisturiser is exactly as it sounds, a facial moisturiser with a slight hint of colour. You can use it by itself, or if you have extra dry skin layer it on top of your normal moisturiser. Apply it just like face cream with your fingertips for a quick, sheer finish to the skin. A tinted moisturiser is generally the sheerest finish of the three.

BB CREAM

BB cream is short for beauty balm. PART skincare and PART makeup. It is a comparatively new product to the beauty industry, and completely taking it by storm. This versatile skin care/makeup hybrid promises to do the job of five or six other jars and tubes: moisturizer, primer, sunscreen, skin treatment, concealer, and foundation.

BB cream tends to generally be a little thicker than a tinted moisturiser due to its fuller list of ingredients. It also gives generally a slightly stronger coverage than a tinted moisturiser but a lesser coverage than your foundation. Most contain SPF which will protect from sun damage whilst also smoothing your complexion and evening out skin tone.

It is applied like a moisturiser and is meant to look like your natural skin, not foundation. Just ensure to blend around the hairline and jawline for a flawless finish.

CC CREAM

CC cream is short for colour correcting cream. It is very similar to BB cream; being part skincare and part makeup but CC cream specifically targets redness and uneven skin tone.   It can counteract redness, conceal dark spots and bring back the glow to sallow skin. It is lightweight and long wearing and also slightly sheerer than a BB cream. Skin is balanced, covered and protected.

WHAT TO CHOOSE?

When choosing between a tinted moisturiser, BB cream and CC cream let your own skin type and concerns guide you. If you are looking for barely there coverage that will help hydrate your skin throughout the day, try a tinted moisturiser. If you are looking for a product that has skin-boosting ingredients as well as a little bit more coverage, opt for a BB cream. And if you have any areas where colour correction is required such as redness or uneven skin tone, then a CC cream is going to be your best bet.
